What are some tips to make impactful bullet points on a resume

Steve

A good resume should always appear as professional as possible, regardless of the amount of experience the candidate has. One way to increase the professionalism is by making impactful points. That not only tells the reader you are confident about your skills but more importantly that a potential employer can quickly get a picture of your overall profile.

Always start each point with a strong verb. Avoid use of 'I' or starting with an adverb. A good example would be 'handled customer complaints in a timely manner'. It should also aim to highlight the outcome of your work. This is usually accomplished by numbers and stats. Something like 'revamped support process, boosting satisfaction to 95%' is preferable over 'supported customer satisfaction through innovation'.

Another strategy is to be concise but specific. Don't put too little words but neither too much. You need to demonstrate your industry-specific skills without being too wordy. Also consider using strong adjectives. But only use them in no more than half of your points, preferably the ones that you feel the most confident about. Try not to repeat the same verbs. Also choose easy-to-read fonts. Fancier isn't necessarily better. You are writing a resume, not a love letter. Last but not least, don't put too many bullet points, as the overall length of your resume should be limited to one page.

If you took the time to read this your chances of getting hired has already gone up by 20%!
